A Few Of My Favorite Food Items!October 2, 2014
One of the top questions I get all the time, is what do I eat????
As we transition to a clean diet, making choices can seem very overwhelming and daunting. In the ideal world, we would have all the time in the world to shop, cook and prepare wonderful nutrient dense meals and not be stressed about what to eat.
However, for the majority of us, this is harder than not. We are pulled in so many directions, that at times, the last thing you want to do is shop and cook, and convenience takes over.
For me personally, what I buy for my family to eat is a work in progress. However, there are some staples that have become my favorites, and they have a constant presence in my pantry.
Coconut Milk – In a can and a staple I ALWAYS have in my pantry. I love cooking and baking with it and I add it to my cup of coffee. My favorite brand is Natural Value because it is in a BPA free lined can, plus it is pure coconut and water. No added guar gum or other additives.
Muffin Mixes – These mixes are awesome! If you are grain free, these muffins from Simple Mills are the way to go. Not only are they gluten free and GMO free, but they are so easy and convenient to make. Empty the bag into a bowl, add an egg, some water and some coconut oil and you are good to go. Personally, we have tried the pumpkin and the chocolate mixes, and they are both fab!
Healthy Drink – If you have been reading my blog for a while now, then you know I talk a lot about healing the gut and the importance of good gut flora. Water is always my first choice of drink, but at times I want something sweet and tasty to drink. Enter the Kevita drinks. They are similar to kombucha drinks in that they are fermented and loaded with probiotic, but instead of being made out of tea, they are flavored water kefir(fermented water or coconut water). Bonus – Costco now sells them in a six pack, saving you money.
Canned Tuna – I am not a big fan of eating tuna all of the time, but at times it comes in handy when there is nothing else to eat in the house, or you are in a hurry. One can buy very unhealthy and not well sourced tuna in the store, but I particularly like the Wild Planet brand. Good news again, Costco sells in six pack bundles as well.
And finally, meet Slick. He is the newest addition to our house of hens. I couldn’t help sharing him because I love his fuzzy feet. We won’t be eating him, but he has joined a group of laying hens that provide us with wonderful fresh eggs every day.
